DraftKings, the major site for daily fantasy sports had cuts off its sponsorship ties with several major eSports teams amidst persisting legal and financial issues.
It was only last September that DraftKings moved to sponsor six major eSports organizations, i.e.: Cloud9, Team SoloMid, Counter Logic Gaming, compLexity Gaming, mousesports, and SK Gaming.
The deal, believed to be a multi-million deal brokered by sports management agency WME|IMG had already been severed. The more observant fans and followers had observed that the DraftKings logo were removed from each of their team’s jerseys and websites.
While the reason for severing the ties were not clear, but it was suggested that DraftKings ran into legal problems in which several U.S. states recently outlawed daily fantasy sites.
The company had thus ended its spending spree which came alongside an unprecedented amount of investment and joint ventures that were poured into eSports last year from fantasy betting and gambling sites and even traditional sport sites.
DraftKings and had also since ceased sponsoring UFC tournaments, as well as certain NFL and NBA events. However, they secured partnerships with Premier League football clubs Arsenal, Liverpool and Watford as part of its global expansion.
