Valve has announced the Dota 2 Manila Major – the third and final Major this season in advance of the International 2016 will be held on June 7 – 12 in the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
The event boosts of a bountiful prize pool set at $3 million.
Tickets will go on sale Saturday, March 12 at 1pm SGT with three seating tiers available. Pricing for event tickets will be ₱200/100/50 per day for the weekdays, and ₱400/200/100 per day for the weekend days.
However, competing teams will have to get prepared quickly. After the Shanghai Major, teams may want to make changes to their roster but they need to do it quick.
Although the Manila Major is still months away, each team that wants to compete in the major tournament faces the same roster lock on March 27, or in slightly more than 2 weeks.
The same roster will apply for The International event due in August. In other words, the squad members each competing team settle for now will be the same members competing for the rest of 2016’s competitive Dota Season.
Eight teams will receive direct invitations to the event while another eight will join after making it through regional qualifiers. No invites were announced as yet, but in all likelihood invites will follow in those previous events where a majority of the quarter-finalists of the previous major up to that event would be included.
Valve, the organizer of the Major has revealed that they were hopeful in preventing any sort of hiccups after suffering major problems with their production during the Shanghai Major.
Their current production partner, Romanian-based PGL is experienced in the field and had successfully organized a Counter Strike: Global Offensive event in Manila last year.
This Major event, coupled with the ESL One tournament (also held in the Philippines) is the major eSports events for the season in the region. It is hoped that the region would receive a boost in eSports interest as a result.
