ESL announced that they will be adding another regional for the Summer season today.
The decision was made after feedback from the community about the “timeliness” (or lack thereof) of the Summer qualifier announcement.
ESL product manager, David Kugelmann who was representing his eSports entity provided the following statement:
“We are sorry we had to announce the qualifiers and the first regional at short notice , and we promise to improve the way this works in the future.”
The three qualifiers would be taking place a mere 5 days after the announcement and before the Spring Championships were even over, ESL added to the announcement that the Summer Regional would be held from April 22nd to the 24th at their UK Studios in Leicester.
But this won’t be the only Summer Regional Europe will see, as there will now be two regional championships for summer. Information is not disclosed as of yet as to whether there will be another whole set of qualifiers for the second, or if the first will somehow tie in.
The first European qualifier for the first Summer Regional starts Wednesday, March 23rd. However, given the new tournaments and its formats that Blizzard and ESL continues to churn out for Heroes of the Storm, followers have a lot to keep up with.
Patch 2.0 of Blizzard’s very own MOBA also introduced major reworks to the game, with the skills of Illidan, Kael’Thas, Sylvannas, Tychus and Gazlowe receiving significant modification.
