Mousepsorts and Virtus Pro advances into ELEAGUE semi-finals

Mouesports and Virtus Pro are the last semi-finalists in ELEAGUE after Natus Vincere and Fnatic had made it into the final four earlier.

The former teams made it through after registering surprising victories in both cases, knocking out veteran teams Astralis and Ninja in Pyjamas (NiP) in the quarter-finals.

In fact, any possibility of Virtus’s win against NiP despite a weak roster was one that would stretch anyone’s imagination.

There may have been signs of declining on NiP’s part since their group stage exit from ESL One Cologne Major, but one would hardly place their bets on Virtus, who had shown poor performances at LAN events and an even worse record online.

But they shaped up, and went shoulder to shoulder against NiP and began de _Dust2 with a quick 5-0 lead before NiP finally made a reply. They picked up two rounds, but as Filip “NEO” Kubski picked up two triple kills, VP mustered ahead to 8-2. Even with Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg showcasing remarkable effort and skill to carry his team, NiP was outclassed, and lost their first map 16-8.

Fans were worried NiP were not even in the game as VP’s Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski quickly secured four USP kills to take the lead at de_cobblestone. However, solid plays from f0rest and Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund managed to charge NiP ahead to 6-1, before wrapping the half up at 9-6.

But as VP switched to T-side, aggressive tactics saw them win the second pistolround to equalized the score to 9-9. Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarzabkowski then won a one-versus-one against Lindberg to see the Polish team move ahead to 10-9, and bad economy saw NiP become ELEAGUE history.

Meanwhile, mouseports began their rout over Astralis on de_Mirage, led by dutch AWPer Chris “chrisJ” de Jong. They never gave ground or any chance, and with chrisJ’s 21 frags in 18 rounds, won the first game of the series with only two rounds conceded.

Knowing they were in trouble, Astralis galvanized in the second map, de_Dust2, and fought evenly up to a 3-3 score, and lead 8-7 by half-time. Nicolai “device” Reedtz even managed to led his team to a triple on the pistol after the break.

Although they went up to 11-7, they could only win one more round before eventually finding themselves fighting a match point with low economy. The inevitable followed and mouseports closed it down in straight sets, winning the second map by 16-12.

As ELEAGUE gradually approaches its conclusion, Fnatic will face off against Natus Vincere while mousesports meets VP in the semi-finals this Friday.
