The seeding for the upper and lower brackets for The International 6 has been decided after three days of matches, with Chinese teams proving to be the dark horses.
We also saw favourites fall short in Dota 2’s most prestigious tournament.
In Group A, Wings Gaming (3) were able to exceed expectations and get 3 places ahead of Natus Vincere (6), recent champions of StarSeries. However, the Chinese team could face a difficult match in their upper bracket playoff, as they face Digital Chaos, who placed second in Group B.
Digital Chaos’s run had been a surprise, given the team’s individually-skilled roster. In fact, their team does not even have much team accomplishments to brag about, but their victories against the likes of Newbee, Fnatic, Team Secret, and Team Liquid would shape them as a firm contender here in TI6.
Still, DC’s victories here dim in comparison to the real dark horse of Group B, EHOME. After underperforming throughout the year, they only just managed to enter TI6 by winning the wild card slot. Somehow, they turned their fortunes around, and now they are the strongest seed in Group B – their 12 points even exceeds Group A’s leader OG’s tally by one.
On the other hand, group favourites such as Team Secret and Fnatic underperformed, and will have to play in the lower bracket as a result: Fnatic against Escape Gaming, Secret against LGD. Team Liquid, who has also fell to the lower bracket, will play Na’Vi.
In a nutshell, as the playoffs begin, we could very well see the fan favourites exit in last place.
