Valve announced that a Dota 2 major tournament outside of The International will debut in the US.
The event, dubbed the Boston Major, kicks-off another new Dota season from December 3-4, and 7-10 of the same month. The cycle that begins with this event in December will feature another Major event in spring, and The International event on August 2017.
Including The International 6, the Boston Major will be the third Dota 2 event of the year, the first two having taken place in Shanghai and Manila, Philippines.
Valve also revealed that it has partnered with tournament organizer PGL once more following the successful Manila Major earlier this year.
Open qualifiers for the tournament will take place beginning Oct. 23-26, with the regional qualifiers for the event less than a week later on Oct. 27-30. Additionally, no invited teams were mentioned in the tournament announcement as of yet.
Nonetheless, as the group stage of the tournament kicks off in Dec 3, sixteen teams will be seeded before the main event on December 7.
Also, for the first time, the playoffs will be played in a single elimination bracket, rather than the traditional double bracket.
As for the public, fans will be able to witness the $3 million dollar prize-pool event firsthand at the Wang Theater as the playoffs commence on December 7.
