The upcoming IEM Gyeonggi Invitational, to be held from the 16th to the 18th this month, will feature the first ever Overwatch LAN event taking place in a stadium.
The Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi, South Korea will house six teams, a handful of casters and up to 41,000 Overwatch fans in the $100,000 invitational.
Intel Extreme Masters has partnered up with OGN to host the Overwatch event, as well as trademark Starcraft 2 and League of Legends tournaments. Given the location, each game will feature some of the local top teams in the scene including:
- LuxuryWatch Red
- Afreeca Freecs Blue
- KongDoo Panthera
They are the favorites in every domestic Overwatch competition, and joining them are two of the best European teams around: Rogue and Misfits. While these two teams could be considered as representing Europe and the West in general, the former just recently got back from China & Korea, while Misfits missed out in action on both APEX and APAC.
Nonetheless, both teams could prove interesting in action given their recent roster changes. Rogue is playing with two new players, SoOn and Skipjack, while Misfits will be adapting to a total of four new faces – but suffice to say, it will be every spectator’s hope that they could get over any jet lag or team issues quickly and put up a good show next weekend.
