Dota Pit has added Elements Pro Gaming and Invictus Gaming as replacements for Chinese teams Wings Gaming and NewBee, as the latter two faced visa issues due to conflicting schedules with another Dota 2 event.
The two replacements were close to qualifying by finishing second in their respective regions (Europe and China).
iG happened to be defeated by NewBee themselves in the final match of the Chinese qualifier, while Elements Pro Gaming were unable to defend against OG in the first European qualifier.
Wings Gaming, champions of The International 2016, forfeited their participation in the tournament last week, stating the reasons for not being able to attend in an elaborate Twitter statement.
It turned out that the process for attaining visa for the event would take a long time to process, with their attendance in the ESL One Genting causing conflicts. This was the same case for NewBee, who will also be attending the event held in Malaysia.
As the ESL event begins this weekend, the Dota 2 Pit League will start in two weeks’ time in Split, Croatia between 20th and 22nd January.
The updated team list now includes:
- Invictus Gaming (replacement)
- Elements Pro Gaming (replacement)
- Digital Chaos (invited)
- Pro (CIS Qualifier)
- Team Faceless (SEA Qualifier)
- Evil Geniuses (America Qualifier)
- OG (Europe Qualifier #1)
- Team Secret (Europe Qualifier #2)
