FaZe Clan’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive division has confirmed their place in IEM Sydney through invite, ESL Australia announced via Twitter.
The IEM World Championship runners-up, who made headlines in February as they signed Bosnian rifler Nikola “NiKo” Kovac, saw significant improvement in the tournament right after his addition into their active roster, and just stopped short of winning the event after falling to Astralis in the grand final.
If all goes according to plan there could very well be a rematch between those two sides in Sydney. The other three teams joining the duo in Sydney are SK Gaming, Renegades, and OpTic Gaming.
There are three more spots left in IEM Sydney, with one spot at the tournament open to one last ESL invitee. The remaining two will come from Chinese and Oceanic qualifiers, the latter of which is restricted to Australian and New Zealand residents only. The teams in that particular closed qualifier are as follows:
- Tainted Minds
- Team Immunity
- Dark Sided
- Avant Garde
- Legacy Esports
- Two more open qualifier slots
The IEM Sydney group stages will be kicking off on May 3, with the grand finals taking place just a few days later on May 7 for the rightful winner to prove their worth and take home the lion’s share of $200,000.
