A third team will be joining the list of teams participating in ESL One: Cologne 2017 as FaZe Clan receives a direct invite to Germany.
Faze joins SK Gaming and Virtus.Pro in the $250,000 prize pool event will be held at the Laxness Arena in Cologne, Germany as per previous iterations.
Sixteen teams (12 joining through invites, 4 through qualifiers) will face-off in their quest to make the playoffs and the lion share of the prize pool, taking place on July 7th-9th.
FaZe Clan’s new roster that includes Serbian superstar Nikola “NiKo” Kovac has only seen one LAN event so far — Intel Extreme Masters: Katowice 2017.
While relatively untested, their performance exceeded all expectations as they finished top of their group and secured a semi-finals placement off the bat.
In the semi-finals they met but made short work of the Immortals in a two map rout, only to meet none other than the best team in the world (right now), Astralis.
While unable to prove their title credentials in the best-of-five series then and there against Astralis’ own European mix, FaZe did show that they are capable. After all, the team went out with virtually no preparation, and did not even met their new star until a few days before the event.
