The addition of eUNITED would complete the list of teams participating in this weekend’s TakeOver 2 tournament.
An announcement of the groups for the initial stages of the event is expected to released soon.
TakeOver 2, which kicks off this Thursday (1 June 2017) will be the first Overwatch LAN event in Europe since DreamHack Winter last year. With the most recent announcement of eUNITED’s invitation from organizer TakeTV, the list of teams attending the Krefeld-hosted event has now been completed.
eUNITED, the runner-ups of Overwatch PIT, will join the ranks of the Overwatch competitive elite in the likes of Rogue, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Cloud9 to find out who’s the best to claim $50,000.
As it is, the invite could not have come at a better timing as it will pull eUNITED out of their competitive stasis — the roster hasn’t played a single tournament fixture since mid-April, at the aforementioned Overwatch PIT.
Like eUNITED, a majority of the teams participating also hails from the EU region, which was expected as it has been needed.
Indeed, on the road to the Overwatch League announcement, competition has grown scarce both across the Atlantic and especially in Europe as tournament organizers such as DreamHack have placed a “wait-and-see” response on all of their Overwatch involvements.
And so, TakeOver 2 will be the first major tournament since Overwatch PIT to perhaps reinvigorate European teams ahead of the controversial League announcement. As for the NA and KR regions the only team to represent them will be Cloud9, set to debut their new tank, ex-RunAway’s Sang-Hoon “KAISER” Ryu in a LAN environment.
