Team Secret destroys Team Liquid to defend DreamLeague title

Team Secret trounced reigning International champions by 3-0 in the ROG DreamLeague Season 8 grand final to successfully defend their Dota Major title.

Up against The International champions Liquid, there is no doubt that Secret’s in-game leader Clement “Puppey” Ivanov out-drafting of his counterpart Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi played a huge role in Secret’s dominance in all three games.

This was evident starting with game 1, where despite early laning going horribly well for Liquid’s Nyx Assasin — Keeper of the Light mana burn duo, Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat responded with an Elder titan to win the other two lanes and kept his team in the game with 100 % kill participation at the 10 minutes mark, before eventually earning a team wipe with 20.

However, Liquid dragged the game out with Matumba’s rich Lone Druid to keep them in gold lead despite lagging in kills by 30 to 9 to hold their base until 72 minutes before Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng finally got the answer with a Divine Rapier.

In game two, he early to mid-stage game time went fairly even, both teams trading kills everywhere before Secret’s Lone Druid made the difference by taking down all the three lanes of barracks with his Aghanim’s Bear while Liquid found it impossible to push the high ground against a Refresher Orb plus Refresher Shard Tidehunter.

While Liquid went with a Drow ranger strategy in game three they started the game with an aggressive trilane that proved to be a total loss as Puppey had Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barqawi’s farm under control with his Enfeeble-Bane spell.

At the same time, Adrian “Fata” Trinks had an explosive start of the match with two solo kills in his offlane completed Crimson Guard after just 12 minutes. With no real magic damage from Liquid, Team Secret pushed the high ground only 17 minutes into the game and sweep Liquid 3-0 in the DreamLeague Season 8 Major.

It adds glitter to Secret’s achievement that the multinational roster completed their title defense by dropping a single game in their entire-campaign — against Liquid themselves in the upper-bracket final.
