ESL One has announced the directly invites and qualifier schedules of the upcoming ESL One Genting minor that will be held near the end of January next year.
The tournament organizer is returning to the Arena of Stars, at Resort World Genting, for the second Minor in Southeast Asia that will feature 16 teams participating through invites or qualifiers, with a prize pool of $400,000 USD and 400 qualifying points up for grabs — 100 more than the usual minor events in the Dota Pro Circuit.
For invited teams, ESL has announced their list which includes Newbee, Mineski, Virtus.pro, Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, Vici Gaming and Fnatic in a lineup that promises much explosive action in the tournament proper.
However, there is an issue as ESL “closed” the list of directly invite teams by tweeting: “completing our direct invites for #ESLOne Genting are none other than FNATIC”
When they had released an image with all the direct invites slots plus the qualifiers spots allotted for their event on the day before, the number of slots amounts to a total of nine direct invites and seven qualifier spots for teams to fill up.
While members of the Dota 2 community tweeted at ESL for a clarification on the issue with the esports press following up with official queries, no official answer has been posted from the organizers yet.
Still, teams could qualify to what is considered the biggest minor of the year with regional qualifiers open to six locales: Europe, China, CIS, Southeast Asia, North America and South America. Each region will see one team ascend through the qualifiers into the tournament proper, with the China region being an exception with two spots.
