December 22 — Evil Geniuses will see the departure of a long serving member of their roster as their offlaner Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora parts ways with the North American team.
EG, who were the first North American team to win Valve’s biggest annual Dota 2 event — The International, will no longer field offlaner UNiVeRsE following a year of mixed results in 2017 and his nearly four-year tenure with the team, aside from a brief stint with Team Secret in 2016.
The departure of UNiVeRsE comes four days after Evil Geniuses had finished in seventh place at the eighth iteration of The Summit — a result that was telling of what has been a very inconsistent year for the North American roster.
“The decision to reconfigure the roster without him as a part of it was not one taken lightly,” Evil Geniuses COO Philip Aram wrote in the team’s official press release regarding UNiVeRsE’s departure.
In his place, Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan will be taking over as offlaner.
Meanwhile, the organization has added former OpTic Gaming support player Rasmus “MiSeRy-” Filipsen to the roster — as well as shifted the role of former support Clinton “Fear” Loomis, who will be occupying an unspecified core role in 2018. The latter will also relinquish his duties to the former.
Additionally, EG has changed their coach as Avery “SVG” Silverman will be replaced by Kanishka “BuLba” Sosale.
