Virtus.pro overpowered ViCi Gaming by 3:1 to claim their second Major championship title of this Dota 2 Pro Circuit season and trophy at ESL One Katowice 2018.
VP were debuting their revamped roster after trading out Ilya “Lil” Ilyuk for Vladimir “RodjER” Nikogosyan with Na’Vi earlier in the month, which had made many skeptical about whether the team could function as a team.
However, the CIS powerhouse showed up at Katowice and with superior gameplay and team synergy.
Taking on ViCi Gaming in the Grand Finals, the team made a routine victory of seizing another ESL trophy for their collection, the $400,000 and 750 DPC points.
The first two maps ended in less than 30 minutes each, with the potent Gryocopter/Omniknight combo serving VP well, with new boy RodjER also pulling his weight and prove his ability to play in the big leagues at the utility support role.
However, VG bounced back in the third game thanks to a stunning Puck game by Zeng “Ori” Jiaoyang, where he scored around 50 last hits in the mid lane before the five-minute mark passed, placing him far ahead of everyone else in terms of net worth, before carry player Zhang “Paparazi” Chengjun caught up on Terrorblade.
But VG did not kept their momentum to extend the match into game five as VP decided to fire all cylinders. RodjER was the difference once again, keeping his team in fighting condition through every teamfight with Chen, earning him the deserved Mercedes-Benz MVP title and the car that comes along with it.
After having already claimed the championship title for ESL One Hamburg 2017, fourth place for DotaPit Minor, 3-4th place for MDL Major and first place in Dota Summit 8 Minor, the team now stands at the very top of the DPC rankings list with 4950 points.
However, they will see no rest yet as they prepare to leave for Romania in just a few days, where they will participate in the PGL Bucharest Major.
